Distributed security means that, rather than rely on one security measure, OfficeTellerTM uses many lines of defense — including encryption, automatic sign-off, and firewalls — to protect your account information. So whether you're enrolling online for Internet banking, transferring money or paying your bills, you can depend on your accounts and your account information being safe.


What can I do to protect my account information while I'm banking online
OfficeTellerTM takes numerous steps to keep your accounts and customer information secure, but you also play a role in maintaining the security of your banking information. Here's what you can do:
  • Memorize your password
    Your online password authenticates you when you begin an Online Banking session. You should memorize this password and never write it down anywhere or reveal it to anyone.
  • Change your password regularly
    It's important to change your password regularly, which you can easily do when you begin an Online Banking session.
  • Remember to sign off
    You may not always be at your own computer when you bank online. Therefore, it's important to sign off when you're finished banking. If you forget to do so, OfficeTellerTM automatically signs you off after 10 minutes of inactivity.
  • Use your browser's built-in security features
    We recommend that you use the built-in security features that browsers provide. Choosing certain security settings and options will help protect the privacy of your accounts and personal information.

What security measures are taken to prevent sensitive information from being intercepted online
From the moment account information leaves your computer to the time it enters OfficeTellerTM computers, all Online Banking sessions are encrypted. That means your password as well as all information relating to you and your accounts employ some of the best forms of cryptography that are commercially available for use over the Internet.

If for any reason your secure session ends, your online banking session automatically terminates.


Technology is constantly changing. How do you keep up with developments in security
OfficeTellerTM security standards are among the most stringent of any company on the Internet.
Being an industry leader, however, doesn't mean OfficeTellerTM works in isolation. We collaborate closely with software manufacturers like Netscape and Microsoft when they introduce browser upgrades. OfficeTellerTM first tests these browsers to see if they meet the our security requirements. Our standards are high, and if a browser isn't secure enough for Online Banking, OfficeTellerTM won't permit it to be used to conduct banking sessions.

Likewise, OfficeTellerTM keeps abreast of and implements relevant technology developments — whether it is an improved form of encryption or a better method for monitoring unauthorized intrusion. Our security team constantly monitors attempts to break into our security system to make sure your account information is safe and secure.


Why can I only use certain browsers for Internet banking

OfficeTellerTM reviews browsers to see whether they operate appropriately in regard to security and functionality for users who bank online with us. In particular, we look closely at the following security features:
  • No storage of account information
    OfficeTellerTM requires that browsers not record customers' banking information on their computers' hard drives — unless you explicitly download it.
  • Encryption
    Browsers play a vital role in encryption, so OfficeTellerTM tests browsers to make sure they provide the encryption level required for Online Banking. To conduct Online Banking services such as view balances, transfer funds or pay bills through the Internet, a browser with standard 40-bit or 56-bit encryption is acceptable. Additionally, OfficeTellerTM encrypts your Online Banking and Bill Pay sessions within our banking servers to provide you with stronger security without requiring you to upgrade to a browser with 128-bit encryption.
While many browsers provide high levels of security, very few browsers meet all of OfficeTellerTM security and functionality requirements.


Can I use a beta browser for Online Banking

OfficeTellerTM tests new browsers to ensure they operate appropriately in regard to functionality and security. Even if a beta browser meets our security standards, software updates can unknowingly change aspects of how a program operates in regard to security. Therefore, OfficeTellerTM only supports final versions of new browsers.


Why do I need to upgrade my browser
For security reasons, certain browsers will soon "expire" their ability to perform secure transactions such as Internet banking. In order to maintain its high degree of customer security, OfficeTellerTM will soon be unable to allow access to customers using these browsers. In order to continue their banking activities, those customers will need to upgrade to newer versions of their favorite browsers.


What are OfficeTellerTM requirements for supported browsers
OfficeTellerTM minimum requirement for Online Banking is standard 40-bit or 56-bit encryption.
